Time to think VACATION Simple Sketching Supplies

Those of us who are creative HAVE to pack some art supplies. You just never know when the inspiration may strike! And we know that can be ANYTIME, especially on trips!! So here are a few of my favorite things… add a bag to fit it all and just grab and go.

This selection can even fit into ziplock bag if needed!

  1. Handbook Journal- the square 6 x 6 or this one in 8.5 x 5. ( or any easy to carry size sketchbook)
  2. mechanical pencil of your choice
  3. Micron pigma pen .01 in black (its waterproof and acid-free)
  4. This would be my BARE MINIMUM. BUT, as an art supplies hoarder I add a few more goodies in.
  5. Watercolor pencils and/or compact watercolor set
  6. a T
  7. dager style paint brush, point paint brush and a waterbrush
  8. Acid-free glue stick
  9. washi tape to tape stuff in sketchbook with
  10. Folding scissors (find in the camping section)
  11. a few other sizes of Micron Pigma pens for fun.

Trick to sketching more is to have your supplies ready to grab and go or in the car all the time. Secret nobody tells you is to buy double supplies if you need to. love that pencil? get two. One for everyday use and one in your kit. It is worth the doubles to have a drawing supplies all together instead of looking for this pen, pencil , brush as you get ready to go somewhere. it was the best thing I ever did, having duplicates of my favorites pens and p brushes. Even a small watercolor set. Then i knew my kit was complete and cold spend more time sketching and recording! What I wanted to really be doing…not trying to remember when I last had that brush. What are your favorite supplies and tips to spend more time drawing? C Love to hae a new excuse to go get a new tool! Share in the comments below. hope you found this helpful too! happy travels and sketching!

Susan Walker creates bright, bold, encouraging mixed media acrylic paintings. Custom paintings and pet portraits. Conducts, drawing, Twisted line, travel sketching for mixed media paint & sip classes for adults and children as well as many others at her location or yours. She works in her home studio while sharing it with family and fellow creatures: Lucy the beagle, Pickles the once independent city slicker, 6 koi, 3 uninvited but welcomed frogs in their pond. Here you can follow along in her life as an artist & business owner in her daily life as a mother, wife. Mixed media is her medium of choose, building up layers of paint, texture, stamping and just about anything else lending to the topic. She enjoys the whispers of encouraging words in her art. Inspiring words can be the focus or whispers among the images she draws and paints. She feels the world around us is filled with criticism and pressure where our own thoughts and being gets forgotten. Sometimes she states encouragement and inspiration boldly as the focus of the piece or just under the surface and among the layers for the discerning eye to discover. Susan continues to work with pen/ink and watercolor using them in her art and in her almost daily sketchbook journals.
